Term Definition
Ethernet over twisted pair (of copper wires) 10BaseT – 10 mbps 100BaseTx – 100 mbps
Voice traffic using Vizada Voice gateway to connect to the rest of the world (PSTN).
Autonomous System is a connected collection of IP routing prefixes under the control of one or more network operators that presents a common, clearly defined routing policy to the Internet.
The degree to which a system, subsystem, or equipment is operable. The Measured Availability is calculated by deducting from the total amount of minutes in a calendar month the amount of minutes the Service was not available, divided by the total amount of minutes in a month, multiplied by 100. These figures are provided in the monthly reporting together with the ticket numbers and RFO’s (Reason For Outage) per location.
The amount of data throughput available on a given link or the capacity to transfer data over a connection.
Angle between the half-power (-3 dB) points of the main lobe, when referenced to the peak effective radiated power of the main lobe.
Bit Error Ratio. Bit error ratio is the ratio of the number of bits incorrectly received to the total number of bits sent during a specified time interval.
Border Gateway Protocol peering. Peering is voluntary interconnection of administratively separate Internet networks for the purpose of exchanging traffic between the customers of each network. BGP peering is used for routing information exchange between BGP autonomous systems. BGP autonomous systems represent administratively separate Internet networks.
Binary Phase Shift Keying Quadrature Phase Shift Keying 8-Phase Shift Keying
Block Up Converter. Combines up-converter (from L-band) and a power amplifier in one sealed unit. A BUC takes an L-band input signal, converts it to a satellite RF band (Ku, C...) and transmits it to the satellite.
Committed Information Rate Dedicated capacity.
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol used by networked devices (clients) to obtain/provide the parameters necessary for communication in an Internet Protocol network. A DHCP server manages information about client configuration parameters. Upon receipt of a request the server will assign the computer an IP address and other IP configuration parameters (these devices are DHCP Clients)
Direct Inward Dialing numbers.
Data Link Connection Identifier. Data link connection identifier (DLCI) is a channel number which is attached to frame relay data frames to tell the network how to route the data. In context of TBB service it is used as a destination receiver address - i.e., to tell the network who the data is destined for.
Elevation is the angular measurement of a satellite above the horizon. The lower the elevation, the lower performance of the link.
